Rift Division is a multi-player FPS PVP survival game set in the near future on a remote island in the Atlantic ocean where different player owned divisions, or factions, must compete to control the island, domination style.
The world of Rift Division is a small British island in the Atlantic ocean. The world consists of large forests, open fields alongside interesting points of interest such as villages, military outposts and ex-industrial areas.
Occupying the world of Rift Division are different NPCs which will provide a compelling player experience. There are three types of NPC: survivors, brigands and traders. Survivors are neutral in nature and will pose as a threat only depending on the current scenario, additionally, survivors can be recruited to your division to help defend and attack. Brigands, or bandits will roam the world with the intention of killing and stealing from other players - these NPCs are always hostile. Finally, traders will provide a way for the players to exchange items that can aid their survival.
The game has been built upon a custom networking solution, allowing for fine control over how the multiplayer features function. Furthermore, this employs techniques such as player prediction, entity interpolation and lag compensation for a smooth gameplay experience.
In Rift Division, you will be competing against other players to conquer the island you are stranded on. Players can capture different sections: minor sections and major sections. Minor sections will provide a location that a base can be erected. Major sections will provide a bonus to the player, such as improved loot quality from buildings within that section.
Rift Division's development process will be documented on YouTube and there will be demos available to play in the near future to ensure that the people interested in the project can give their input and so the game is going down a route that will be enjoyable and fair for everyone.
Rift Division is currently being solo developed by Lucas, a Unity game developer with near a decade of experience working in the engine and a computer science educational background. In the future, the team will hopefully be expanded and work will be contracted out to talented individuals who want to help contribute to the project.
